How To Deal With Exam Stress?

The number of students studying Chartered Accountancy has been rising year after year. However, the passing percentage of pupils in this test is relatively low, making it considerably trickier to clear. Chartered Accountancy as it is, is regarded as one of the most difficult professional degrees in the country, with fierce competition for students. Hence, it's no shocker that most students find it considerably hard to deal with the pressure that comes along with exam preparation.

The CA Examination is split into three distinct stages. The first stage is CPT (Common Proficiency Test), more commonly known as the Foundation test, followed by Intermediate, and then the Final levels of this test. Each level has its own set of requirements for passing. The Foundation exam comprises both objective and subjective constituents, whereas the Intermediate and Final exams are completely subjective. The syllabus for all three levels is rather extensive and ample.

Some stress is inevitable, and there is no way one can remove all shreds of stress from one's being. But, one can follow the given pointers to make sure that last-minute stress is minimized.

1. Be fully aware of the course content

 This is the first and foremost prerequisite to entering the examination hall with confidence instead of sweaty palms. Strike off the topics that, in your opinion, are unimportant and are never asked in exams. In the examination hall, keep in mind that a small hint or a tiny understanding of a topic is sufficient to attempt a question. This point is inextricably linked to your self-esteem and, as a result, minimizes test anxiety.

2. Prepare and follow a timetable diligently

One may easily prevent exam stress if they stick to a regular study schedule from the start. If one is satisfied with their preparation, it becomes easier to avoid stress. So, from the very beginning, attempt to design and follow a thorough and adaptable study plan.

3. Understand your learning style

Study during your active hours. Are you a night person or a morning person? We all have somewhat varied biological clocks. Everyone revises differently; you might prefer to study at an uncluttered study table or under the comforter on your bed with your laptop.

4. Shift your focus towards clearing out concepts

Studying should never be done for the sake of it, and textbooks should never be crammed up. It is important to focus on a conceptual study from the start of your professional path in order to minimize test stress and ensure long-term professional success. The most practical way to go about any examination is to be thorough with all concepts in the syllabi.

 

5. Interact with classmates

Another approach to coping with pre-exam jitters is to have a lighthearted conversation or an exam-related discussion with your friends and classmates. This can prove to be highly beneficial as one gets the opportunity to clear doubts and psychologically prepare for the competition ahead.

6. Know when to lean back and relax

According to psychologists, we can only concentrate for 45 minutes at a time and the longer we attempt to focus on one issue, the less successful our brains become at dealing with it. Take a break and shift your focus to some other fun activity. Hang out with your friends and family to boost morale and heighten your spirits.

 

7. Take care of all health-related matters

Keep track of your diet, water consumption, sleep schedule, and the amount of physical activity you're getting. Make sure you eat healthy and get at least 7 hours of sleep each day. A refreshed mind and a healthy body are the prerequisites for focused and stress-free studying.

A little stress is not necessarily a bad thing. It means that you take your course and exams seriously, and one should use it as a push to work harder and smarter. Now, you've done it all, and it is your exam day. Remember to keep everything in context. If you're feeling particularly anxious, find a quiet place and try breathing deeply in and out for a few minutes while focusing your attention on something pleasant, such as a relaxing memory - anything that will help you relax. Always remember that while examinations are important, you are much more than your marks.
