for IAS you have to adopt a different approach. your civic sense, common sense most importantly memory power should be high. once they asked how much India allocated for defence in Prelims

ias is not more of public administration, it is more of current affairs, general knowledge, reasoning, knowledge about social scenario. you can choose any optional in Mains u like. Public Administration is just one of the optionals.
if doctors with knowledge of anantomy can clear IAS, why can t us?

One needs super strong motivation to pass IAS exams. One of my friend studied for 10 years trying to pass IAS exam, but then he gave up. Contacts got him into MoS agriculture.
So, IAS is good for challenging yourself.

It doesn't matter whether you are CA or not ,minimum education eligibility criteria for appearing in IAS is Graduation...so you must be Graduate to appear in IAS examination.....if you are CA but not Graduate then you are not eligible...

Go ahead with your IAS preparation, you need to be among first 100 in Civil Services Exam to be allotted IAS.
Go through The Hindu meticulously, especially the Editorial, Science and Technology, Business page, International page, make it a habit to read Hindu daily for 3 hours.
make notes from the Hindu
for reasoning, decision making buy The Chronicle, a magazine for Prelims and Mains
Have empathy for fellow beings, nature and other animals
Improve the knowledge about your hobbies by researching on it, for eg, if u say ur hobby as cricket in IAS interview, then u must know the rules of the game, history of the game, names of all prominent players and the Ranji trophies, World cups, and other tournaments in the International arena, about ICC, BCCI, other Boards in other countries, etc
fpr some important questions in IAS interview u need to look into the Region page of Hindu after u appear for Mains, not before that

First complete your ca. Sailing in two boats leads to sinking. IAS is very different from CA. If you do not make it to the last mean clear interview it is meaningless. There is no value in pre clear or mains clear.
A lot of people have spent time or wasted time in pursuing it. Idea is if you have been atleast in top 5 of your class then pursue it or do it after securing your ca.
And Yes there are quite a few CA who clear UPSC/IAS & Allied albeit number is fewer than other streams.

Well Said Mr.CA Sidhartha Sankar Pillai.
In addition NCERT Text Books -especially 8th to 12th standard and The Frontline magazine plays major role for prelims.
